Historical Note
The ten pence denomination was introduced in 1968 in a larger 28.5 mm format, with Christopher Ironside’s crowned lion design on the reverse.
Following a review of the United Kingdom coinage, a smaller 24.5 mm ten pence was introduced on 30 September 1992. The earlier large-format coin remained in circulation until 1993.
The standard 1992 ten pence issued for everyday circulation was struck in cupro-nickel. This example uses the same new smaller-format design in sterling silver and Proof quality, giving the 1992 transition a distinctly different finish from the coin used in daily transactions.
This silver proof therefore belongs to the first year of the smaller ten pence format, while preserving the crowned lion design that had already become familiar through Britain’s decimal coinage.

FALJU Perspective
Drawn to the way the crowned lion fills such a small coin without making the design feel crowded, FALJU COINS selected this piece for its compact and controlled composition.
The proof surface makes the lion stand sharply against the field, while the crown, body, and tail remain easy to read within a diameter of only 24.5 mm.
What interests us most is the contrast between scale and presence. It is a small denomination, yet the heraldic image has enough strength to hold the entire surface without relying on elaborate decoration.
