A 1960 British commemorative crown issued for the British Exhibition held in New York.
The obverse carries Mary Gillick’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse brings together the Royal Arms and the floral emblems of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales around a central crown.
With a mintage of 1,024,038, it was produced in relatively smaller numbers than several other major British commemorative crowns of the period.

発行枚数は1,024,038枚で、同時代の主要な英国記念クラウンの中では、比較的発行数の少ない一枚です。

Historical Note
The 1960 crown was issued to mark the British Exhibition held in New York, which was opened by Prince Philip.
The exhibition gave British manufacturers an opportunity to present their products to the American market, and The Royal Mint was among the British institutions represented.
The reverse brings together the Royal Arms and the floral emblems of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales around a central crown.
In this way, the coin presents several of the symbols used to represent Britain at the time of the exhibition within a single composition.

歴史的背景
1960年発行のクラウン硬貨は、ニューヨークで開催され、フィリップ殿下によって開会が宣言された「英国展」を記念して発行されたものです。
この展覧会は、英国の製造業者が米国市場に向けて自社製品を披露する機会となり、英国王立造幣局も出展した英国の機関の一つに名を連ねていました。
硬貨の裏面には、中央に配された王冠を囲むように、英国王室の紋章を構成する4つの区画（クォータリング）がそれぞれの盾の中に描かれています。それらの盾の間には、英国を構成する各地域を象徴するバラ、アザミ、シャムロック、リーキ（西洋ネギ）があしらわれています。
つまり、この硬貨のデザインは、展覧会当時の英国を象徴する王室および各地域の紋章を一つに融合させたものとなっているのです。
