TOKYO Collection Fair 2026 offered a view of a more traditional side of collecting in Tokyo.
Held in Yurakucho, the fair brought together dealers offering coins, banknotes, stamps, and other collectible objects.
The event has a long history in Japan’s collecting community and continues to bring together a broad range of collecting interests.
During my visit, raw coins were particularly prominent across the venue.
Certified coins were also present, but high-grade certified pieces were not the central focus of the selection I observed.
Rather than a market built primarily around top-grade slabs or a narrow group of internationally recognizable coins, the fair reflected a wider and more traditional collecting culture.
That distinction was particularly interesting from the perspective of FALJU COINS.
Different collecting markets place value on different qualities.
For some collectors, grade and certification are central.
For others, the appeal may be found in rarity, history, price, variety, or the experience of discovering an individual piece among many objects.
The presentation of coins also reflected this difference.
High-value pieces were generally shown within the broader flow of merchandise rather than separated through highly curated displays.
None of these approaches is inherently better than another.
They represent different ways of collecting.
For FALJU COINS, visiting markets with different characteristics provides useful context for understanding where certified historical coins sit within the wider collecting landscape in Japan.
It also reinforces the importance of looking beyond grade alone — at design, historical background, condition, rarity, and the context in which an object is collected and presented.
Seeing these differences firsthand continues to inform how FALJU COINS approaches historical coins as both collectible objects and pieces of material history.

TOKYOコレクションフェア2026では、東京の収集市場の中でも、より伝統的な収集文化の一面を見ることができました。
東京・有楽町で開催された会場には、コイン、紙幣、切手をはじめとするさまざまな収集品を扱うディーラーが集まり、幅広い分野のコレクションを見ることができました。
今回実際に会場を訪れて特に印象に残ったのは、裸コインの存在感です。
鑑定済みコインも一部で見られましたが、今回私が見た範囲では、高グレードの鑑定済みコインが市場の中心という構成ではありませんでした。
世界的に知られた銘柄や最高鑑定を中心に構成された市場というよりも、さまざまな年代、地域、価格帯の収集品の中から、自分の興味に合う一枚を探していくという、より伝統的な収集文化が感じられる会場でした。
FALJU COINSの視点から見ると、この違いはとても興味深いものでした。
コインを集めるとき、何を重視するかは市場やコレクターによって異なります。
鑑定や状態を重視する場合もあれば、希少性、歴史、価格、種類の豊富さ、あるいは数多くの品の中から一枚を探すことそのものに魅力を感じる場合もあります。
展示方法にもその違いが表れており、高額なコインも、特別に演出された展示というより、数多くの収集品の一部として自然に並べられているケースが多く見られました。
どちらが優れているということではなく、それぞれ異なる収集のあり方です。
FALJU COINSでは、鑑定済みの歴史的なコインを中心に扱っていますが、異なる特徴を持つ市場を実際に訪れることで、日本のより広い収集文化の中で、鑑定済みコインがどのような位置にあるのかを見ることができます。
そして改めて、グレードだけではなく、意匠、歴史的背景、状態、希少性、そしてその一枚がどのような文脈で収集されるのかを見ることの重要性を感じました。
市場を自分の目で見ることは、FALJU COINSが歴史的なコインを、単なる商品ではなく、収集対象であり、同時に小さな歴史的オブジェとして捉えていく上でも大切な機会となっています。
