Every coin has two sides.
Collectors usually describe them as the obverse and the reverse.
These terms are used by grading companies, auction houses, museums, and collectors around the world.
The obverse is generally considered the front of the coin.
On many modern coins, it features the portrait of a monarch, head of state, or another official design chosen to represent the issuing country.
The reverse is the opposite side.
It often shows a denomination, national symbol, commemorative design, or another artistic composition.
Although this sounds simple, identifying the obverse is not always straightforward.
Some historic coins do not feature a portrait, while certain commemorative issues use more symbolic designs.
For that reason, the issuing authority determines which side is officially regarded as the obverse.
Understanding these terms is useful when reading auction descriptions, grading labels, or collecting guides.
For example, a description may mention “light marks on the obverse” or “beautiful toning on the reverse.”

一般的に、表面には国王や君主、国家元首など、その国を象徴する肖像が描かれます。
